BBM coming to android and ios on june 27

The widely appreciated BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service is making its debut on Android and iOS platforms, according a tweet from @bbworldwid, the BlackBerry Worldwide’s Twitter account. The arrival is scheduled for
June 27, 2013.
The tweet shows a picture of BBM running on an AT&T version of the iPhone. The launch will likely bring the key features of BBM, such as BlackBerry Groups, voice note sharing, and multi-person chat, with other features making their way slowly.

RIM updated BBM to BBM 7 in December last year, augmenting its appeal among business users. The most noted feature is its support for voice calls over Wi-Fi. In January this year, RIM launched the BB10 operating system, a platform that was developed right from scratch. BB10 is equipped with the BlackBerry Enterprise 10, a system that allows support for Android and iOS.
In May, BlackBerry announced that its BBM will launch outside the BlackBerry 10 (BB10) platform, but did not specify a release date. BBM is expected to launch as a free app on Android and iOS. It will compete with WeChat, WhatsApp and other free apps, but it is to be noted that BBM has been popular even before the arrival of BB10. Latest statistics say that more than 10 billion messages are sent through BBM each day.
The BB10-based smartphones – BB Q10 and BB Z10 – launched this year with expectations that they will revive their manufacturer’s smartphone market. The devices seem to be doing well. RIM is also preparing to launch a budget BB10 smartphone called BlackBerry Q5 in July across select regions. The BB Q5 will be a QWERTY smartphone; more details have yet to be revealed.
Considering BlackBerry’s renown as the perfect business smartphone, the rollout of BBM across other platforms is a key milestone.
